All About R5 RECORDS & VIDEO

By far the most asked question is "What does R5 mean?".

Uhhhh…..you'll have to ask Russ. That's Russ Solomon, famous for owning that other record
chain that started it all. Funny thing is he doesn't think he's special but he is. He gave birth
to a whole new way of getting music in front of music lovers. Back then transistor radios
were just coming out and you could get on your Stingray bike and peddle over to that
record store and buy a copy of what you just heard through your single crappy ear phone. Amazing!

OK, back to the question. The R obviously stands for Russ, or records, or round things, or
rutabagas, or whatever; but most likely it's Russ. Why wouldn't it? He owns the joint.
But now we have the 5. That's the real question. What's the significance? That 5 is the
atomic number of boron should be obvious. But what does boron have to do with music?
(except it rhymes with moron which can be applied to much of the music industry today)

But an even more obvious use of the number 5 should be these musical tidbits:
A Perfect fifth is the most consonant harmony, and is the basis for most western tuning
systems. And oh yeah…a musical staff has 5 horizontal lines. Now we're getting somewhere!

But a perfect fifth is also a bottle of booze. And of course 5 is the number of players on a
basketball team and don't forget the 5 interlocking Olympic rings. This aint goin' nowhere.

And there's this: Russ has been quoted as saying it's his favorite number. Really? Out of all
the numbers in the universe he picked 5?

Whatever.

Let's move on. Here is some stuff about R5 Records and Video.

R5 Records and Video opened in June of 2007 at 16th and Broadway in one of the best
neighborhood locations in all of Sacramento, CA. From the beginning it was NOT
designed to compete with the 'Big Box' competitors. The goal was to offer everything
the big boys carry but really concentrate on the 'good stuff'. The coolest Indie
section. Eclectic Jazz everyone else is afraid to stock. Great collections at really
low prices. You get the idea. A really great record store.

The store is staffed by some of the best audio and video buyers in the country. Their
mission/passion is to carry the most interesting stuff and cater to the real
'music freaks' and still carry everything. And they also scour the ether for better
and better deals so the customers can always find something new and at great prices.
In fact, most of the prices are the same or lower than Internet prices. And get this…
they are expert researchers and can find just about anything in the world which
can be special ordered by taking down your information and calling
you when it arrives. It's the epitome of the personal touch.

R5 also has live music that's sometimes inside and somtimes outside. From local bands
to touring Indies. Country to string quartets. Very cool.

So, IMAGINE WALKING AROUND THE STORE AND BROWSING AND TALKING ABOUT
MUSIC WITH OTHER PEOPLE
and then sometimes ACTUALLY HEARING LIVE
MUSIC BEING PERFORMED BY REAL MUSICIANS.

To sum up:
  • R stands for Russ.
  • 5 stands for 5.
  • It's a real store. There are no links or back-buttons.
  • Great buyers.
  • Interesting stock.
  • Personalized special orders.
  • Great pricing. Sometimes better than the Internet. (Gasp!)
  • You can walk around and browse. (There are also comphy chairs.)
  • You can discuss music and video stuff with other people. If you don't want to talk to other people we understand, but the option is there.
  • Live music.
So I guess you can say that you can BROWSE, CHAT, SEARCH, LISTEN, BUY and as soon as our wave machine is installed you will be able to SURF. Sound familiar?

Please come by when you are in Sacramento and see what everyone is talking about.
